Guide / Finding your way around
HelpFinding your way around
The dashboard organises everything into 14 areas down the left edge. Here's how to get around, and who on your team sees what.
The icon rail and the drawer
A thin rail of icons runs down the left of every screen: Today, Chats, Jobs, Schedule, Customers, Messages, Quotes, Invoices, Buying, Team, Reports, Price book, Settings, Profile. Click the arrow at the top of the rail to collapse it to icons only, or expand it back to labels — Jobdeck remembers how you leave it.
Each area's own screen carries its related screens as tabs across the top rather than as separate sidebar lines, so Jobs opens with Job board, Job focus, Projects, Site diaries, Site reports and Knowledge base one click away, and Reports opens onto a catalogue of every report rather than eighteen separate entries in the rail. This changed in September 2026 — Jobdeck used to have a much longer sidebar with everything listed flat; it's been reorganised so a new starter isn't faced with well over a hundred lines the first time they sign in.
Opened something and want to keep it around while you work elsewhere? The Keep open button pins a screen as a tab under the header, so you can flick back to it without losing your place.
Search (⌘K / Ctrl-K)
The search box at the top of every page searches jobs, customers, quotes, invoices, the price book, suppliers, sites, files and assets all at once. Start typing, or hit ⌘K (Mac) or Ctrl-K (Windows) from anywhere in the dashboard. Click a result to jump straight to it.
Saved views
Filtered a list the way you like it — Jobs → "In progress, only mine", say — and want it back without setting the filters up again? Every filter lives in the page's own web address, so bookmarking or saving that address is enough to jump straight back to it.
Light and dark
The theme button by the search box flips the whole dashboard between light and dark. Your choice sticks on this device.
Notifications and chat, always one click away
The bell and speech-bubble icons in the header stay in the same place on every screen: notifications (a red badge shows how many are unread) and staff Chats. Neither needs you to leave the screen you're on.
A trial or subscription banner appears under the header when your plan needs attention — while you're trialling, if a payment's failed, or if your account has gone read-only. See Getting started and Settings for what read-only means and how to fix it.
Who sees what: roles and permissions
Everyone on your team has a role, and the dashboard only shows each person the areas and buttons their role and permissions allow. Every gate is one of three kinds: some screens are role-gated (owner/admin only, regardless of anything else), some are permission-gated (any team member with that specific permission switched on can see it), and a few are marked accountant seat OK, meaning the free read-only bookkeeper seat can see them too even though it holds no other permissions.
- Owner, you. Sees everything, and is the only one who can change what admins can access, start or change the subscription, or open the card and invoice history.
- Admin / manager. Sees the office screens — but only the parts you switch on for them. Real permission keys behind that switch include things like
issue_quotes,invoicing,view_money,assign_jobs,approve_timesheets,approve_leave,approve_expensesandmanage_settings— each one turns on exactly the screens and buttons that need it, nothing more. - Worker, the field crew. Sees the shared screens (Today, Schedule, Jobs, Customers, their own Licences, staff Chats); the money and setup screens stay hidden unless a permission has been switched on for them specifically.
- Accountant seat. An optional, free invite for your bookkeeper — see Team for the detail. It's read-only and adds the money reports and the financial export on top of the shared screens everyone gets, and it never counts towards your plan.
Set who can see what from Team (owner only). Job board specifically needs assign_jobs rather than a blanket manager flag — it's a dispatch decision, not a money one, which is why a lead hand can get access to it without also seeing invoices.
